Downtown Mechanicsburg Welcomed the Newest Art Gallery and Artist Community in Central Pennsylvania Thursday, September 21, 2006.
MECHANICSBURG, Pa. -- Downtown Mechanicsburg, just 10 minutes from the state capital, is quickly becoming a thriving art Mecca. Jeffrey Van Boskirk, owner of the 2nd Floor Gallery in Mechanicsburg, opened his second art gallery and artist community in the downtown area on Thursday, September 21, 2006 with a grand opening reception.
The grand opening reception for Gallerie Thirteen included a Mechanicsburg Chamber of Commerce mixer followed by the formal ribbon cutting with Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll. Artist and musician Jonathan Frazier also performed.
At the Grand Opening of Gallerie Thirteen, Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll praised Jeffrey Van Boskirk, the gallery owner, for his vision and motivation for making the galleries and the artist community in Mechanicsburg so successful. The success of the galleries in Mechanicsburg is a testimony to the strong art culture in the mid-state area.
Just a block from the 2nd Floor Gallery, Gallerie Thirteen is located at 13 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg. “It's more than just a gallery; it is an artist community.” "We've planned a large location for music, dance and great art!" Van Boskirk said.
With more than 4,300 square feet of studio and exhibition space on the first floor, Gallerie Thirteen features 12 working artist studios, a public exhibit space for local and international art and a custom frame shop. The second floor adds an additional 2500 square feet of display space. This space features a different local artist, high school show or special art collection each month. An open floor plan offers a spaciacious area with a large hard wood floor. Ballroom dance lessons are offered by Jeffrey Van Boskirk. After 17 years of owning the areas largest ballroom dance schools Jeffrey took four years off to start the 2nd Floor Gallery and is now returning to teach lessons part time.
